No. 18 Lee at Westfield, 7:30
Looking to prove last week's 27-7 victory over W.T. Woodson was no fluke, No. 18 Lee (3-0, 1-0 Virginia AAA Patriot District) travels to perennial power Westfield (1-2). Westfield's defense will be tested against the Northern Region's leading rusher in Idreis Augustus -- a speedster who has compiled 577 yards and five touchdowns on just 35 carries.
Park View at No. 4 Broad Run, 7:30
The Patriots (2-1) owned a 15-game winning streak against Broad Run heading into 2007, but the balance of power has shifted in the Dulles District. The Spartans (4-0), last year's AA Division 4 state champions, feature one of the area's top rushers in senior T.J. Peeler (609 yards, 8 touchdowns). After a 3-7 2008 season, Friday's contest will prove whether Park View belongs in the district title hunt.
AROUND THE AREA
There are five Northern Region teams with 3-0 records, and two meet Friday night when No. 9 Robinson plays at Herndon in a game that features talent at the skill positions. Rams RB Jared Velasquez, a junior, and Connor Riley, a senior, have rushed for a combined 629 yards and 10 touchdowns. Herndon senior QB Zack Ozyck has thrown for three and run for three touchdowns. . . . Lake Braddock plays at T.C. Williams on Saturday in a Patriot District matchup of teams coming off wins -- decided in the final minutes -- over Concorde programs. Lake Braddock did not give up an offensive touchdown in a 10-9 victory over Westfield, and T.C. upset then-No. 3 Oakton on a fumble return for a score. . . .
Osbourn (3-1) will square off with Osbourn Park (2-1) for the 13th time since 2001 Friday in Manassas, and during that time the series has been defined by two winning streaks. Osbourn Park won the first seven games before Osbourn took control in Week 10 of the 2004 season, winning 21-12 to start its current five-game winning streak in the series. . . . No. 17 Woodbridge (3-0), even without De'Antwan Williams (Rutgers) in the backfield, has run for 668 yards.
