GETTING THERE

The closest airport to Berkshire East Canopy Tours in Charlemont, Mass., is Bradley International, about 75 miles south in Windsor Locks, Conn. Southwest flights from BWI Marshall to Bradley start at $119 round trip. From the airport, take Interstate 91 north to Route 2A toward North Adams, Mass., then Route 8A to West Hawley Road. Go left on 66 Thunder Mountain Road, home of the zip-lining operation. Driving from Washington takes about 7 1/2 hours.

WHERE TO STAY

Charlemont Inn, 107 Main St., Charlemont, 413-339-5796, http://www.charlemontinn.com. Open since 1787 and only minutes from the mountain. Semi-private doubles from $100.

WHERE TO EAT

Curtis Country Store, 159 Main St., Charlemont, 413-339-4900, http://www.curtiscountrystore.com. Soups, sandwiches, chili, salads and other filling eats, costing a few dollars to $6. Also a bakery and gourmet cheese shop.

ZIP-LINING

Berkshire East Canopy Tours, 413-339-6618, http://www.berkshireeast.com/zipline. Offers three tours of varying adventurousness. From easiest to most extreme: Base Area ($25), Mountain Top ($85) and Valley Jumping ($110). Participants must meet age and weight requirements.
