ACROSS THE POTOMAC

Marylanders for Deeds

Democrat R. Creigh Deeds will make a brief stop in neighboring Maryland next week to raise money as he heads into the final month of the governor's race.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and Democratic Party Chairwoman Susan Turnbull will host a fundraising reception for Deeds on Oct. 8 at the Potomac home of lobbyist Barbara Goldberg Goldman.

"Our friends and neighbors just across the Potomac River and the entire Democratic Party need our help!" according to the invitation. "Here is an opportunity to help Creigh continue serving the fine people of Virginia, and to keep Virginia blue! This race is in the home stretch with just under 37 days to go and, according to recent polls, is neck and neck."

FUNDRAISING

Events for McDonnell

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal headlined a fundraiser for Republican gubernatorial candidate Robert F. McDonnell on Monday night at the McLean home of Dwight Schar, founder of NVR, one of the nation's largest homebuilders.

The event was expected to draw about 20 people and raise about $250,000. McDonnell will be joined by Sheila Johnson, the co-founder of Black Entertainment Television, who endorsed him earlier this year despite being a major Democratic fundraiser.

McDonnell also raised $100,000 at a breakfast fundraiser Monday morning with former House speaker Newt Gingrich at the Falls Church Marriott.
