A D.C. education leader has won a national prize for her work in advancing Latino students in higher education.
Sarita E. Brown, president of Excelencia in Education, a District-based nonprofit that analyzes data and advocates policies that support academic achievement by Latino students, won one of three McGraw Prizes in Education, an annual award that recognizes educational leaders and which includes a $25,000 prize.
She was executive director of the White House Initiative for Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans under President Bill Clinton.
