Man Arrested for Lying About Attack
A Fairfax County man who claimed he was stabbed inside Springfield Mall on Tuesday has been arrested for lying to the police, who said Thursday that the man's injuries were self-inflicted.
Fairfax police said Anthony Chedid, 21, of the 6400 block of Franconia Court reported that he was approached by two men as he sat on a bench in a mall hallway. Chedid told police that he gave up his wallet when asked but that one of the men stabbed him anyway.
Detectives found inconsistencies between his account and the evidence at the scene, Officer Don Gotthardt said. He said Chedid might have inflicted the wounds because of "personal issues."
Chedid was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. He was charged Thursday with filing a false police report.

Pr. George's Gets Top Bond Rating
Prince George's County has been given a AAA bond rating by a major Wall Street ratings firm for the second year in a row.
The coveted rating was given by Standard & Poor's. A downgraded rating would have meant that the county would pay more in future interest payments on borrowed money.
