Two men have been arrested and were ordered held without bond Monday in the shooting of a Prince George's County police officer during a botched carjacking last week, authorities said.
Damont E. Poteat, 19, and Brandon O. Bright, 20, were charged with attempted murder and other related counts, authorities said. They were taken into custody Thursday near Bright's residence in the 7900 block of Den Meade Avenue in Fort Washington after investigators received an anonymous tip connecting them to the shooting, police said.
Poteat and Bright are accused of trying to carjack Officer Eric Horne, a two-year member of the department's bureau of patrol, when he was off duty and in his personal vehicle in the 7200 block of Jaywick Avenue in Fort Washington. According to police charging documents, Poteat shot Horne in the hand while Bright served as a lookout.
Once in custody, Poteat admitted to conspiring with Bright to rob Horne and then firing his gun when Horne startled him, according to police charging documents. Bright told investigators that Poteat came to his home after the incident, saying he had been in a shootout after someone tried to rob him.
Horne was treated and released from the hospital, where his middle finger had to be amputated, according to police documents.
