Montgomery County Planning Director Rollin Stanley has been cited by the Potomac Valley chapter of the American Institute of Architects for promoting "good architecture, design and sustainable building practices."

Stanley, 50, is the fifth recipient of the Kea medal, named for Paul Kea, a Hyattsville architect and civic leader who died in 1968. Stanley is the first non-architect to receive the award, a statement from the planning agency said.

Stanley has been director of the Montgomery Planning Department since February 2008.

Stanley, a native of Canada, previously worked in St. Louis and Toronto.
