Several lanes on the 14th Street bridge will be closed this week because of work scheduled to last through the weekend.

One lane on the northbound side of the bridge will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Two lanes of the southbound span will close at 10 p.m. Friday and will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

Platforms for painting a portion of the bridge will be installed and other repairs completed during the closures. The D.C. Department of Transportation is advising motorists to stay to the right to get through the work zone.

The Mount Vernon Trail, which passes underneath the south end of the span, will be closed overnight for a month beginning Saturday because of bridge painting. This work, scheduled from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., is expected to be completed by Nov. 10.
