Metrobus: Drug Tests 'Robust'
Metro called its drug-test procedures "robust," responding Thursday to a news report that eight Metrobus drivers failed drug and alcohol tests after accidents over the past five years and that 44 percent of all positive tests at the transit agency during that time have been among bus drivers.
Of 16,000 tests for all Metro employees during that period, 129 were positive, Metro spokesman Steven Taubenkibel said. Of 1,124 drug tests for bus drivers after accidents, he said drivers tested positive 13 times from June 2004 to June.
The Washington Examiner first published the test results Thursday, based on information obtained from a public records act request.

14th Street Bridge Work Planned
Several lanes on the 14th Street bridge will be closed for work scheduled to last through the weekend.
One lane on the northbound side of the bridge will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday and from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Two lanes of the southbound span will close at 10 p.m. Friday and will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.
The D.C. Department of Transportation is advising motorists to stay to the right to get through the work zone.
The Mount Vernon Trail, which passes underneath the south end of the span, will be closed overnight for a month beginning Saturday for bridge painting.
