A judge ordered the release from jail Friday of a suspect in an alleged D.C. taxi bribery scheme, but prosecutors said they would appeal.

Prosecutors argued that Yitbarek Syume was a flight risk and a danger to the community; Syume's lawyer, Thomas Abbenante, said he had a stable home and no history of violence.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Deborah A. Robinson ordered Syume to a halfway house, but the appeal could prevent the transfer.

Syume and 38 others are accused of taking part in a scheme to obtain taxi licenses. He has been in the D.C. jail since Oct. 2.
