An 18-year-old man was fatally shot and a second victim, also described as a young man, was critically wounded in a spray of gunfire Monday in Southwest Washington, D.C. police said.

The slaying victim was identified as Chicquelo Abeny of Southwest Washington. Police did not identify the second victim because he survived the shooting and is considered a witness.

The shootings occurred about 1:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of First Street SW. One of the victims was found in that block, and another was found in an alley off N Street SW, police said. The motive for the shootings was not immediately clear.
