Montgomery County will hold free H1N1 flu immunization clinics each Wednesday from now through mid-November, officials said Tuesday, offering an early look at how a Washington area jurisdiction is gearing up for its mass vaccination campaign.

The plans represent the broadening of an effort that began last week. Now all high-priority groups, including pregnant women, can be vaccinated, because shots -- not just the more restrictive nasal sprays -- are available.

Wednesday's walk-in clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Dennis Avenue Health Center at 2000 Dennis Ave. in Silver Spring. Next Wednesday it will be held during the same hours at the county health center at 1335 Piccard Dr. in Rockville.

In addition to pregnant women, those eligible for the vaccine include young people from 6 months to 24 years, people who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months, health-care workers and people with chronic health problems.

Montgomery is also holding clinics for public and private high school students and other young adults, to be held at three high schools: Northwood in Silver Spring, Northwest in Germantown and Rockville High. They will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the three schools each Wednesday for four weeks, starting Oct. 28.
