-- Second lady Jill Biden visits Marines and their families at Camp Lejeune, N.C., part of her ongoing work to honor military families.

-- Before the markets open Wednesday, the Commerce Department will release the retail sales report for September.

-- Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton wraps up her tour of Europe with a stop off the beaten path -- Kazan, the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan. In a city where Russian Orthodox and Sunni Islam are the dominant faiths, Clinton will meet with religious leaders and young Muslims before departing for Washington.

-- At 2:30 p.m., the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs subcommittee on financial institutions hears about the state of that sector from witnesses including Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman Sheila Bair, Comptroller of the Currency John Dugan and Federal Reserve Board member Daniel K. Tarullo.

-- At 10 a.m., the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee holds a hearing on the economic impact of global climate change legislation. Testimony is expected from Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas W. Elmendorf and U.S. Energy Information Administration Administrator Richard Newell, among others.
