Howard at Morgan State

Thursday, October 15, 2009

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Hughes Stadium, Baltimore.

Records: Bison 2-3, 0-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference; Bears 4-1, 2-0.

Sputtering Offense: The Bison's offense has struggled to get going. Howard ranks 90th out of 118 division I-AA teams in rushing offense (107.4 yards per game), 108th in passing offense (126.8), 110th in total offense (234.2) and 116th in scoring offense (7.6 points per game). The Bison have only one rushing touchdown and have yet to score more than 14 points in a game this season; they have scored three points in their past two games combined.

Pough's Good Start: One of the few bright spots for Howard this season has been the play of redshirt freshman linebacker Keith Pough, who is second on the team in tackles (32) and first on the team in tackles for a loss (7.5). Pough has twice been named MEAC rookie of the week.

Scouting the Bears: Morgan State, whose only loss was to division I-A Akron, leads division I-AA in pass defense, allowing 118.4 yards per game, and have held opposing quarterbacks to a 89.34 rating, the fourth-lowest mark in the nation. But like the Bison, the Bears have trouble moving the ball and putting points on the scoreboard: Morgan State ranks 117th in the nation in total offense (189.6 yards per game) and 108th in scoring offense (11.8 points per game).
