Pepco is reporting power outages in upper Northwest Washington and parts of Montgomery County this morning due to a main line going down. About 2,300 people in the District and 900 people in Montgomery County are without power, and traffic lights are being impacted on 16th Street, Georgia Avenue, 14th Street and 13th Street.
The problem was reported to Pepco at about 7:23 a.m., said Pepco spokesman Bob Hainey. A crew has been dispatched and is heading to the scene, and might be there already, but has to get through the morning rush hour to get there. They believe the problem is somewhere around 13th Street NW, with the impacted area being the upper tip of Northwest Washington (just before Silver Spring).
UPDATE 8:30 AM: The D.C. Department of Transportation is reporting an accident on 16th Street NW.
UPDATE 8:30 AM: The D.C. D.O.T. is also reporting outages at the following intersections (all streets NW): 16th and Alaska NW, Georgia and Kalmia, Georgia and Aspen, Georgia and Dahlia, Georgia and Hemlock.
UPDATE 8:35AM: Two more intersections with outages: Georgia and Elder, Georgia and Geranium.
UPDATE 8:45AM: Now the D.C. D.O.T. is reporting that two intersections (Georgia and Elder, Georgia and Kalmia) are working again.
UPDATE 9:15AM: D.C. D.O.T. says 16th and Alaska is working again. They have people on site giving directions at some outages, with other officers and stop signs at other outages, but recommend treating intersections with outages as four-way stops.
UPDATE 10:50AM: Now Pepco is reporting that this morning's outages were restored by 9:45 a.m., but that there are other outages throughout D.C. More information as we get it.
UPDATE 11AM: Pepco's Web site map shows more than 3,000 outages at this time. We're waiting for a call back from a Pepco spokesperson for more information.
