A Falls Church area man was killed Friday morning when he was struck by a van as he was crossing a street in Fairfax City, police said.
Michael Black, 71, of the 8100 block of Arlington Boulevard, was trying to cross Jermantown Road at the entrance to the Dominion Virginia Power facility near Fairfax Boulevard. He was hit by a van driven north on Jermantown by a 37-year-old Leesburg man at about 6:30 a.m., Fairfax City police said.
Black was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Black was not in a crosswalk. The driver of the van stayed at the scene and has not been charged, police said, and there were no indications that alcohol or speed were involved in the pre-dawn crash.
The fatality was the first in Fairfax City this year.
