The Oct. 14 Food section displayed an appetizing picture of waffles that "cookbook writer Lisa Yockelson spent a year perfecting" ["Griddle Me This: Can Rugged Grains Create Tender Waffles?"]. Those two waffles with a scant two tablespoons of maple syrup and a small glass of skim milk seemed like a healthy breakfast, but nutrition facts provided by The Post showed Yockelson's waffles were far from perfect. In fact, they turned out to be a cardiovascular catastrophe.

That simple breakfast contains 50 percent of the recommended daily intake of salt, two-thirds of the recommended daily intake of fat, 75 percent of the recommended daily intake of cholesterol and more than 1,000 calories. You'd actually fare better having a Big Mac, French fries and a Coke for breakfast.

Given the national epidemic of obesity and diabetes, perhaps the Food editors should search for healthy recipes rather than pretty pictures.
