A 30-year-old Northeast Washington man was found fatally stabbed early Saturday in the block where he lived, D.C. police said.

They said George. E. Wakefield, of the 1100 block of 21st Place NE, was found in that block with what appeared to be a stab wound shortly before 1 a.m.

Police said officers were sent there in response to reports of someone calling for help.

Wakefield was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead there.

No information on any motive in the stabbing was available immediately.

The street where he is found is just south of the grounds of the National Arboretum.
