Calvert Health Department schedules flu shot clinics

The Calvert County Health Department has scheduled four flu vaccination clinics:

-- 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Patuxent High School in Lusby.

-- 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 29 at Huntingtown High School.

-- 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Calvert County Fairgrounds. A drive-through clinic will be offered.

-- 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Calvert County Health Department.

Seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccinations will be offered, if available, at the four clinics. For information, call the Health Department at 410-535-5400 or go to http://www.calverthealth.org.

Navy base to crack down on texting while driving

Officials on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station base are bolstering efforts to enforce President Obama's executive order to prohibit text messaging by those using government vehicles. The base is establishing an armed forces traffic court that can restrict or revoke on-station driving privileges for military personnel in addition to addressing federal driving charges. The order also applies to privately owned vehicles used for government business, as well as vehicles equipped with government-supplied electronic equipment.

A chance to dance the night away in support of Old Waldorf School

The Friends of Old Waldorf School Foundation and the Ballet Arts Academy at the Old Waldorf School will hold the annual School Dayz dinner and dance from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Jaycees Community Center, 3090 Crain Hwy. in Waldorf.

The event will feature dinner, a ballet presentation, hobby horse races, a silent auction and raffles.

Proceeds will help the groups with ongoing renovation efforts, operation and maintenance costs, ballet scholarships and programs for the community at the Old Waldorf School.

Tickets are $60 per person, including dinner.
