County officials to brief residents about flu
Prince George's County Council member William A. Campos (D-Hyattsville) and Prince George's state Dels. Jolene Ivey (D) and Victor R. Ramirez (D), both of Cheverly, will host a forum about the flu from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Northwestern High School cafeteria, 7000 Adelphi Rd. in Hyattsville. Students support literacy, cancer research
Hyattsville Middle School students have spent this month raising awareness -- and money -- for two volunteer causes. On Oct. 2, the school participated in the Lee National Denim Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Students and staff members wore pink ribbons throughout the day, and boys competed against girls to raise money for breast cancer research. The girls won, and a total of $800 was sent to the organization.
On Oct. 8, the school participated in Read for the Record, an international campaign in which students around the world have adults read them the same book on the same day. This year, students at Hyattsville Middle donated $225 to be used to buy books for children in underserved communities in the United States.
