GAMES TO WATCH
Churchill at No. 19 Sherwood, 6:30
Churchill (7-0) will try to keep its record unblemished against its first opponent with a winning record since the second week of the season. QB Alex Kantor leads an offense that has scored at least 30 points in five straight games, and RB Ryan Quinn (894 yards) is coming off his fifth 100-yard game. They will face a Sherwood defense, led by LB Phil Durity and DE Greg Grant, looking to redeem itself after the Warriors' 20-game winning streak ended last week. Sherwood (6-1) is trying to avoid consecutive losses for the first time since October 2003.
Seneca Valley at No. 6 Quince Orchard, 6:30
Since losing its first two games for the first time in 30 years, Seneca has won five straight, as its young skill-position players -- QB Max Nicholson, RB Edward Cunningham and WR Dmitri Parker -- have come into their own. Quince Orchard (7-0) is rolling, with junior QB Drew Murphy looking better each week, and a solid defense led by LBs Danny Tonelson and Roger Hawkins. The Cougars have won 46 of their last 49 regular season games.
AROUND THE AREA
Springbrook (5-2) begins a brutal final stretch of three consecutive opponents who are each 6-1, starting Friday with a trip to Whitman. Next week, the Blue Devils host Sherwood before finishing against Paint Branch. Blue Devils RB Devon Pestano is aiming to rebound from his first sub-100-yard game. . . .
Wise Coach DaLawn Parrish expects his defense, which has posted six consecutive shutouts, to be bolstered by the return of end Rahsaan Moore, who missed one game because of a sprained right ankle. The Pumas play Oxon Hill on Saturday. . . . Dibs on the final spot in the 4A East may be up for grabs when Broadneck (5-2) visits North County (5-2). The Bruins have not defeated a team with a winning record this season while the Knights have won three straight.
