Has the recession receded?

Many economists point to an economic turnaround and the Dow Jones industrial average has climbed back to the 10,000 mark, but few Americans see the recession as a thing of the past.

A broad majority in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll say the worst recession in generations is not over, and most remain worried about the direction of the economy and their own financial futures.

The sense that the recession still rages crosses income, party and ideological lines; Democrats became much less worried about the country's finances this year and are now a bit less apt than Republicans or independents to be worried about the economic future.
