Not all of the "big banks" are money-grubbing thieves. When I recently lost my job, our household income was reduced by two-thirds. You can imagine the stress and anxiety.

Why it did not occur to me to cancel my automatic payments through my checking account, I don't know. But two weeks ago, my automatic payments were sent out and my family incurred almost $500 in overdraft fees. This was my fault, not the bank's, and I didn't expect much in the way of customer service.

But the management staff at the Tysons Corner branch of SunTrust was compassionate, understanding and willing to hear me out.

A simple comment, that they would see what they could do, was enough to renew my faith in humanity. To my surprise, they were able to recover and credit my account the entire amount. Now I wouldn't expect them to do this again, and I have canceled all of my automatic payments, but at a time when all the news seems to be bad, I wanted to share something good.
