Woman found dead in Reston apartment

Police checking on the welfare of a Reston man Saturday found a woman with whom he had had a relationship dead in his apartment, Fairfax County police said Monday.

Karen Deck, 42, of the 1500 block of Inlet Court in Reston, was shot in the upper body, police said. The man who lived in the apartment in the 11900 block of Winterthur Lane was there when police arrived about 3:40 p.m. Saturday.

Police did not release the man's name, but said they had been called to check on him. No charges have been filed and police said the investigation is continuing.

Officer Tawny Wright, a police spokeswoman, said the man and woman were friends and that police believe they were dating.
