Alexandria has received a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Justice Department to continue and expand anti-gang efforts in the community.
The city intends to use the money to intervene with youths who are at risk of joining gangs and help current gang members quit them.
The funds will also go to coordinate an annual regional gang prevention conference, support a regional tattoo removal program, expand the city's mentoring program and hire an outreach worker who will target elementary school children vulnerable to joining gangs.
