Frightening, funny and strange scarecrows will adorn the streets of downtown La Plata for this fourth annual event. "You won't see your typical, ordinary scarecrows," says Michelle Lekan, communications and events director for the Charles County Chamber of Commerce. Last year, there were such incarnations as a country-western scarecrow and one modeled after Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat. Visitors can expect to see at least 35 scarecrows, designed and built by local businesses, schools, community groups and individuals, all competing for ribbons.
