Loudoun Lyric Opera opens its third season with this comic operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan. It's the company's first production in which high school and college students are joining the usual professionals and community members in the cast. Loudoun Lyric Opera president and founder Pamela Butler, who also produced the show, said the group wanted to stage "something that was family-friendly and would appeal to a wide audience." Set aboard a British warship, "Pinafore" is about a woman named Josephine (Lindsay Reigel) whose father, Capt. Corcoran (Alexander Boyd), wants her to marry the upper-class Sir Joseph Porter (Robert Thomson III). Of course, Josephine instead falls in love with lowly sailor Ralph Rackstraw (played by David Miranda and Kristopher Burke), and high jinks ensue. Directed by Byron Jones.
