Where to Go, What to Do in Toronto

Want to take a spur-of-the-moment trip to Toronto? Here's the info you need for the weekend of Nov. 6-8:

GETTING THERE

United Airlines and Air Canada offer daily nonstop flights from Dulles to Pearson International Airport in Toronto for $544 round trip. Seats are available.

WHERE TO STAY

Fairmont Royal York, 100 Front St. W., 1-800-441-1414, http://www.fairmont.com/royalyork. The dowager queen of classic Canadian hotels. Rooms are available, starting at about $260, with breakfast.

Hazelton Hotel, 118 Yorkville Ave., 1-866-473-6301, http://www.hazeltonhotel.com. A five-star hotel where the biggies stay during the Toronto International Film Festival. Rooms available, starting at $350.

WHERE TO EAT

360 Restaurant, 301 Front St. W., 1-416-362-5411, http://www.cntower.ca. Offers a panoramic view of the city's architectural features from a revolving platform high atop the CN tower, an architectural conversation piece in its own right. Regional cuisine and a great wine cellar. Entrees start at about $32.

Mill Street Brew Pub, 55 Mill St., Building 63, 1-416-681-0338, http://www.millstreetbrewpub.ca. Right in the middle of the Distillery District. You can dine on traditional pub fare amid reclaimed brick decor with big wooden ceiling beams and massive copper kettles in the former Gooderham and Worts Distillery. Amazing selection of beers, and you can take a brewery tour. Dinner, including specialty beers, is $30 to $40.

One, 118 Yorkville Ave., 1-416-963-6300, Reserve at http://www.hazeltonhotel.com. A must-do if you're staying at the Hazelton, or nearby. Every bit as opulent as the hotel and not cheap, but the lobster spoons appetizer melts in your mouth. Dinner for two with wine, about $250.

WHAT TO DO

Art Gallery of Ontario, 312 Dundas St. W., 1-877-225-4246, http://www.ago.net. Open daily 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Closed Mondays. Adults about $18.

Casa Loma, 1 Austin Terr., 1-416-923-1171, http://www.casaloma.org. A bona fide castle. Open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adults about $19.

Royal Ontario Museum, 100 Queen's Park, 1-416-586-8000, http://www.rom.on.ca. Learn some history, look at the dinosaurs, check out the mummies. Open Saturday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; 10 to 9:30 Friday. Adults about $22.

Distillery District, 55 Mill St., 1-416-364-1177, http://www.thedistillerydistrict.com. Get a jump on holiday shopping.
