7:30, Ella's Wood Fired Pizza, Penn Quarter
Kevin: I got there a couple of minutes before she did and was seated. When the waiter brought Ashley over, I thought she was cute. She had a pretty face and nice body. She was wearing this cute dress. The table was in my way, so I just half stood up. We shook hands and said hello.
Ashley: I was really nervous because I had no idea what to expect. My first impression was that he was really cute. He has really dark eyes and dark hair. I thought that was really hot.
Kevin: We talked about the usual stuff -- why we did Date Lab, where we worked, where we went to school, where we live in D.C. We started by trying to figure out why we were matched up. We both gave really silly answers on the Date Lab questionnaire. We were talking for a while, so we shared a pitcher of sangria before we even ordered.
Ashley: Talking about the basic things led into stories about our families and our friends, what we do and where we go out. He has a really interesting life. That's attractive. He told me about this job he had with a nonprofit where he worked directly with homeless people. He was very good at telling stories so I was definitely entertained. [And] he was really funny. I felt like our senses of humor were compatible. I tend to be really sarcastic and not take things too seriously.
Kevin: One topic just led to another. It was natural and not forced. It was just very easy to talk to her. After about a half-hour, we ordered calamari. A while after that, we ordered pizza. And we kept ordering sangria.
Ashley: I think we had three pitchers. Not everyone drinks so I didn't want to go in and be like, well, what kind of wine do we want? It was fine, though. That third one left me a little blurry, and we didn't start taking pictures until the end. The pictures started out with us taking them of each other. The waiter took pictures of us. Then I kissed him on the cheek for one. Then he kissed me on the lips. And then we just started making out. I definitely wanted to kiss him, but I wasn't sure I wanted to make the first move.
Kevin: I'm usually pretty bad at picking up on stuff. I was having a great time, but I thought we'd just be friends. And then she kissed my cheek, and I realized she was into me, too. So I kissed her on the lips, and then we started making out. We were the last people at the restaurant. We went for a walk around Penn Quarter to walk off the sangria, and we made out some more.
Ashley: We didn't really do a lot of talking and walking, but we did a lot of kissing. Finally, we walked to the Metro. We had to wait a while, so there was some more kissing. We got off at the stop where I live. He walked me back to my apartment. There was more kissing. I gave him my number, and then he walked home.
Kevin: I think it was close to 1:30 when I got home. It was somewhat sangria-induced fun, but there was definitely a connection. I don't remember what we talked about. I think the reason I don't remember what was said is because we were silly. We went off on random tangents and laughed a lot. It was a lot of fun. I'd give the date a 4.773 [out of 5].
Ashley: I would give it a 4.5. I thought it was fun. He was very cute. The only reason it doesn't get a 5 is because hopefully a future date with him will be a 5. He called and left a message. I'm going to call him back tonight.

UPDATE: Kevin and Ashley met up again for dinner -- and, yes, more smooching. They've been texting ever since and hoping to find time for date No. 3.
