Woodbridge senior Collin Frazer arrived at Osbourn Park High School on Friday night with one clear-cut responsibility. As one of the Vikings' defensive backs, Frazer would be counted upon not to let Yellow Jackets quarterback Dominique Terrell get going.
While Frazer helped do that, limiting Terrell to 80 yards on 19 carries, he added another line to his job description with a clutch touchdown reception in the fourth quarter of No. 12 Woodbridge's 9-3 victory.
Lined up to the left of quarterback Frank Buckley, Frazer took a screen pass that was intended for space vacated by the outside linebacker.
After he stiff-armed a defender, Frazer slipped into another gear and ran untouched up the left sideline for the 49-yard score that came with 5 minutes 14 seconds left in the game.
"I broke one tackle, and there was just open field, so I ran for it," said Frazer, who finished with two catches for 53 yards. "I was just feeding off the team's energy, came out and rose over the top."
Woodbridge preserved its undefeated season and improved to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Cardinal District ahead of next Friday's game against Gar-Field. Osbourn Park dropped to 7-2, 5-1.
Woodbridge began the game with a 10-play, 32-yard drive that lasted nearly five minutes and resulted in a 32-yard field goal from Chris Drisko, but other than that the scoreboard went unused early on.
In the third quarter, Woodbridge opened with a 68-yard drive down to the Osbourn Park 13-yard line, but a poor exchange between Buckley and freshman Jaylen Avent resulted in a fumble that Osbourn Park's Rashard Black recovered.
The Vikings were able to run the ball effectively in the second half, relying heavily on Avent (21 carries, 108 yards) and sophomore Michael Ford (12 carries, 106 yards). And when Woodbridge got the ball back after an Osbourn Park field goal with 2:58 to play, Avent and Ford combined to pick up a pair of key first downs to seal the win.
"What I love about it is that we have a freshman and sophomore back there," Woodbridge interim coach Kevin Smith said. "In a big-time game like this, they played great."
