A 21-year-old University of Maryland student was raped Sunday morning near the College Park campus, Prince George's County police said.

They said the woman was wakened about 5 a.m. to find a man sexually assaulting her at her residence in the 7500 block of Dickinson Avenue. He fled when she screamed, police said.

The attack occurred in a neighborhood where several incidents, including break-ins, assaults and peeping Tom appearances were reported over a 12-month period in 2006 and 2007.

Police reminded all residents to make certain doors and windows are locked before going to sleep.
