Shutterbugs of Washington, rejoice: FotoWeek D.C. is nearly here. Beginning this week, venues across the area will host a panoramic array of exhibitions, workshops and lectures that offer something for photographers and photo-lovers alike. "The Real Story of the Superheroes: Photography by Dulce Pinzón"

The Mexican photographer takes everyday men and women in their daily work environments and costumes them in superhero garb. The result calls into question the meaning of heroism and how we perceive the workforce.

"David Alan Harvey Presents . . . "

Harvey, publisher of the photography magazine Burn, presents his subjects in moments of great joy and great vulnerability in his evocative portraits of everyday family life. His exhibition will also include works by emerging photographers Michael Young, Chris Bickford and A.J. Wilhelm.

FotoWeek D.C. Awards Competition Exhibition

Finalists from 16 states and 28 foreign countries compete for the 2009 competition's top prize. Categories include fine art, news/feature reporting, advertising, travel and sports. The entry that best captures the city's essence will be awarded the "Spirit of Washington" prize.

"Iraqi Voices"

Works by 10 photographers, including Amro Hamzawi, Peter Van Agtmael and The Washington Post's Andrea Bruce, offer an up-close and unflinchingly personal view of Iraqis that is often overlooked by mainstream news coverage.
