The Oct. 31 editorial "Virginia's Secret Election" asserted that the State Board of Elections' Web site made the process of finding specific ballot information "needlessly complicated" for voters. While we agree that our Web site can be improved, the State Board of Elections is proud of its work in partnering with Google and the Voting Information Project to readily provide exactly this type of information to voters.

On the State Board of Elections' home page, you will find a map that can be searched to provide polling locations, driving directions and, if you click the word "details," complete ballot information for most voters in the Commonwealth.

It is unfortunate that your editorial staff did not review this functionality before authoring your editorial. However, to assist voters in finding relevant election information, including polling places and candidates on the ballot, we have added a simplified site (http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/2009) designed to address the real concerns you raised about the ease of use of our site.
