City to build riverfront office
The D.C. Department of Real Estate Services announced a deal Friday with Stonebridge Carras to build a green-certified office at 225 Virginia Ave. SE in the Capitol Riverfront area over two years.
The 350,000-square-foot building will house the Child and Family Services Agency, Office of Chief Technology Officer and the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities. A public art gallery will showcase the commission's art collection on the ground floor.
The city estimates the agencies' relocation will save about $9 million annually and more than $60 million over the life of the 20-year arrangement.
"Redevelopment plans for 225 Virginia Avenue will add value to the surrounding neighborhoods, while also providing facilities upgrades to three District agencies," Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) said in a statement. "We look forward to increased agency effectiveness and economic development as a result of this project."
