A 28-year-old District man being sought by police in a criminal case was arrested Wednesday after barricading himself in a Northeast Washington residence for more than two hours.

Members of the D.C. police emergency response team entered the residence in the 4600 block of Hunt Place NE about 2:30 p.m. and arrested the man, identified as Daniel Spriggs.

Spriggs had refused to surrender when officers with an arrest warrant arrived at the residence about 10 a.m., police said. A woman and a small child were briefly caught up in the standoff but were removed from harm's way by police, said spokeswoman Traci Hughes.

When officers entered the residence, they found Spriggs hiding on the first floor. Hughes said she did not know whether he was armed or why a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
