A year ago we worried about the fortunes of our nation, our financial system and our personal fortunes. Investments I had relied on for a comfortable retirement had declined 30 percent, with no bottom in sight. Now, the Commerce Department is indicating that the recession is ending. My investments are still nowhere near their previous highs, but the trend is positive and there is hope for a better future.
And so instead of tossing and turning at night about the stock market, I am now mentally occupied with trying to fix the Washington Redskins.
Although we are unhappy with the results on the field, it is a blessing to be preoccupied with the fortunes of a football team rather than the fortunes of the financial system, the global economy and our IRAs.
