A person was struck by a car and critically injured Wednesday night on the Anacostia Freeway in Southwest Washington, and authorities shut down two lanes of traffic, D.C. police said.

The unidentified pedestrian was found unconscious after being struck in the northbound lanes of I-295 near Laboratory Road just before 8 p.m., said Gwendolyn Crump, a police spokeswoman.

Police shut down two northbound lanes of traffic and expect to be at the scene for hours.
