A 15-year-old Sherwood High School student suffered serious injuries Thursday afternoon when he crossed a street near the school outside of a crosswalk, Montgomery County police said.
The teen was taken to Suburban Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, said Capt. Paul Starks, a county police spokesman. The teen's name was not immediately released.
Investigators said the student left school grounds and was walking east on Route 108 toward a nearby shopping center about 3:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 2004 Acura RSX as crossed the two-lane road, Starks said. After striking the student, the Acura skidded off the road, hit a tree and overturned.
The car's driver, Mark Bicocchi, 32, of Rockville was taken to Montgomery General hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, Starks said.
