Man killed in motor scooter crash in NW

A 23-year-old District man was killed late Wednesday in a motor scooter crash in Northwest Washingon, D.C. Police said.

They said Lino Montiel of Tuckerman Street NW was thrown from his scooter about 11:15 p.m. when it jumped a curb at 16th and Emerson streets NW and struck a light pole.

Police said he suffered a severe head injury in the incident, which occurred about a mile and a half from his home.

The crash occurred in the Brightwood Park area, east of the Carter Barron Amphitheater and near the William H.G. Fitzgerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park.

Police said the incident remained under investigation.
