I-95 ramp closed
Exit 166B to Alban Road from southbound Interstate 95 has closed for one year as part of the construction that will extend the Fairfax County Parkway to I-95 in Newington. Drivers on southbound I-95 heading for Fullerton Road should use Exit 167, north of Exit 166B.
The intersection of Fullerton Road and the parkway also has been closed. Drivers can detour to Boudinot Drive or a new road that links directly to the parkway. The segment of Fullerton Road between Backlick Road and the parkway is limited to local traffic.
Beltway/I-66 work
The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to close all the Capital Beltway outer loop lanes at Interstate 66 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday as crews install steel beams for a new bridge at I-66 East over the Beltway. This HOT lanes work also involves closing the I-66 westbound ramp to the outer loop overnights.
Bridge repairs begin
The Maryland State Highway Administration has launched a project to clean and paint six bridges. Over the next few months, look for off-peak lane closings at these locations:
-- Interstate 495 (Capital Beltway) bridge over Kensington Parkway in Kensington
-- Route 185 (Connecticut Avenue) bridge over Rock Creek in Kensington
-- Route 410 (East-West Highway) bridge over Rock Creek in Chevy Chase
-- I-495 (Capital Beltway) bridge over Seven Locks Road in Potomac
-- Bridge carrying the southbound Interstate 270 ramp to the I-495 inner loop in Bethesda
-- Bridge carrying the southbound I-270 ramp to southbound Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue) in Bethesda.
Route 212 widening
Work is scheduled to begin this week on a $1.2 million road-widening project along a half mile of Route 212 (Powder Mill Road) between Evans Trail Way/Allview Drive and Beltsville Drive in Beltsville. This should be done by next summer. One result will be a new center turn lane.
