STAR OF THE DAY
Jordan Shipley
WR, Texas
Shipley almost doubled the offensive output of Central Florida by himself, with a Texas-record 273 receiving yards and one touchdown. The Knights, by contrast, gained only 151 yards as a team. Among his 11 catches was an 88-yard touchdown grab in the fourth quarter. The previous Longhorns record was 242 yards, set by Tony Jones in 1987. Shipley has 75 catches for 1,050 yards on the season, and needs only 139 receiving yards in his last three games to set the Texas single-season record. "We'd like to get him a seventh" year of eligibility, Texas Coach Mack Brown said of his sixth-year senior. "He just keeps playing so well."
EVERYONE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT . . .
Jahvid Best's scary-looking fall
Best, one of the most dynamic running backs in the nation, suffered a concussion when he flipped high in the air and landed on his head and back in the end zone during California's 35-14 loss to Oregon State. Best's helmet flew off on impact with the ground, and after 13 minutes he was carted off the field on a stretcher and taken to an emergency room for observation and examination. A Cal spokesman said Best had movement in his extremities, and Coach Jeff Tedford said initial tests came back normal.
QUOTABLE
"I'm not going to lie to you: It feels good to hang 52 on them."
Miami center A.J. Trump, after the Hurricanes defeated Virginia, 52-17. The Cavaliers had defeated the Hurricanes, 48-0, in their last game in the Sunshine State.
