Authorities in Charles County on Monday identified the man killed in a bar parking lot early Saturday as Victor S. Taylor, 24, of Fairfax, and backed off their initial characterization of the incident as a shooting stemming from an argument.

Several witnesses said they heard an argument in the parking lot at Mattawoman Seafood Restaurant just before the 1:15 a.m. shooting, but it was unclear whether Taylor was involved in that dispute, said Diane Richardson, a spokeswoman for the Charles County sheriff's office.

Taylor was shot and killed, she said, and a 23-year-old Lexington Park man who was sitting in a nearby car was struck and wounded by stray gunfire.

Richardson said police have no suspects in the case. The restaurant, at 5024 Hawthorne Rd. in Indian Head, attracts a large bar crowd, especially on weekends. In 1987, a Friday night gun battle left 11 wounded after an argument between two men who police said had been feuding for years.
