Got milk? Definitely not.
From a health perspective, adult mammals shouldn't be drinking milk, especially the milk from another mammal ["Milk's skeptics would like to steer us away from our herd mentality," Eat, Drink and Be Healthy, Nov. 5]. I would do it anyway if I could find a cruelty-free source of milk and milk products. The idea that the mother has to bellow in despair for her calf, and that the calf has to be separated from its mother and have an inferior nutritional source so that we can take the milk from her turns me off milk completely. It's morally wrong, so how can it be a healthy choice?
Linda Gordon, Silver Spring
In the raw
Raw milk is also an option, one my husband and I have been taking advantage of for more than a year now with no ill effects, contrary to the fear mongers out there. In addition to delicious milk, we get cream, which we use in baking, whipping or to make butter, or we can just mix it in and get rich, whole milk. I can't imagine going back to the industrial stuff.
