The following organizations need volunteer help for a day, for a week or on a regular basis.
The Interfaith Clothing Center is seeking donations of gently used clothing to benefit low-income residents of Montgomery County, and volunteers are needed to help load and unload a truck of clothes from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Contact Temple Emanuel at 301-942-2000.
The American Red Cross is looking for people in Montgomery County to help with four- to six-hour shifts during blood drives. Duties include greeting donors, providing them with essential reading materials and offering refreshments. Training is provided. Call 800-272-0094, Ext. 1, or e-mailhttp:/
Committee vacancies
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) is accepting applications for the following positions:
-- Solid Waste Advisory Committee, five vacancies. Committee members advise county officials relating to solid waste disposal and recycling management. They serve three-year terms without compensation. Nine full committee meetings are scheduled in Rockville next year, usually on first Tuesdays. Members are also expected to work on one or more subcommittees.
-- Taxicab Services Advisory Committee, three vacancies. The committee advises the Transportation Department director with regard to taxicab regulation and evaluates the performance of the industry with regard to how it serves those with special transportation needs, including senior citizens and those with disabilities. Members serve three-year terms without compensation, and meetings are held at least quarterly in Rockville.
The application deadline is Nov. 20.
