-- President Obama leaves for a planned 10-day trip that will take him to Japan, Singapore, China and South Korea.

-- At 7 p.m., Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. is the keynote speaker at annual dinner of the Federalist Society conference at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. This year's conference, which continues through Saturday at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, takes up the theme "The Federal Government's Economic Role in our Constitutional System."

-- Bloomberg Link hosts a Washington summit with newsmakers at the Newseum that will include appearances by Kenneth R. Feinberg, the Treasury Department's special master on compensation; Gen. David Petraeus, head of U.S. Central Command; Peter Orszag, director of the Office of Management and Budget; and Neil Barofsky, special inspector general overseeing the Troubled Assets Relief Program.

-- Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and Federal Housing Administration Commissioner David Stevens hold a briefing detailing the FHA's fiscal health and financial outlook at 10 a.m. at HUD.

-- The U.S. Postal Service unveils its "Celebrate Scouting" stamp with the Boy Scouts of America at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum in advance of the scout's 100th anniversary in February.
