One man died and another was in grave condition late Wednesday night after an incident in Northeast Washington that police initially thought was a car accident. Investigators soon determined that both men had been shot, possibly by a third person in the same car, who then fled.
Police officers called to the 4200 block of Meade Street, in the Deanwood area, found a dark-colored sedan that appeared to have rear-ended a white sedan. The incident, about 9 p.m., wedged the white sedan between the dark-colored vehicle and a tree in the front yard of a house adjacent to Interstate 295.
One man was taken to Washington Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead. The second was transported to another hospital, where police officers said he was in critical condition. Police officers had not positively identified either man.
Police officers said it appeared that the two men, who were in the dark-colored sedan, were shot while the car was in motion. Although officers think the shooter might also have been in the car, they could no find no sign of a third person last night.
