Bladensburg police have identified the bicyclist killed when he was struck by a police cruiser Saturday as Rene Osmin Pineda-Paredas, 25, of the 5000 block of Tilden Road.

Pineda-Paredas was pulling onto Annapolis Road from the Bladen Plaza Shopping Center about 2 a.m. when he crossed the path of a police cruiser headed west, police said. The cruiser hit Pineda-Paredas, who was fatally injured.

Police identified the officer as Alex Salinas and said it did not appear that he had violated any policies or procedures in the crash.

Salinas was traveling about 35 mph -- within the posted speed limit -- and a blood test administered after the accident showed no signs of intoxicants, said Sgt. James Flynn of the Bladensburg police.
