Lewis says Mangini overworks players
According to the Associated Press, Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis said Thursday that Coach Eric Mangini is working his players too hard.
"There's talent all over this locker room, young and old," Lewis said. "There's talent everywhere. But that talent has got to be ready for Sunday. It's got to be fresh for Sunday. You can work all day. But if you're going to work like that, you're probably not going to get what you want out of your players."
"This is his show, not mine," Lewis said, according to the AP. "You got to take care of your crop. If you don't, when it comes time to harvest you're not going to make no money because the crop is no good. That's that."
Jones: No deal for Phillips
Dallas has won four straight games and are in first place in the NFC East halfway through their season. But owner Jerry Jones apparently has no immediate plans to extend the contract of Coach Wade Phillips. The Cowboys hold an option for next season in Phillips's deal.
Jones, in his weekly radio show, said this week, according to an account in the San Antonio Express-News: "Since there's been absolutely nothing in my mind but the fact I have an option for him next year, that's as far as we need to go."
Boldin has 'moved on'
Wide receiver Anquan Boldin participated fully in the Arizona Cardinals' practice and said he is over being inactive last week, the AP reported.
"I said what I had to say and I'm done with it," Boldin said Wednesday. "For me, it's not even an issue. That was Sunday and I've moved on."
Boldin said then no one was "man enough" to tell him that he was being deactivated.
Packer won't blame team
Green Bay Packers linebacker Aaron Kampman said the team's coaches and members of the club's medical staff should be "completely absolved" of blame for him continuing to play in last Sunday's game after suffering a head injury.
"They didn't know what was going on," Kampman said. "They need to be completely absolved. And I didn't really know what was going on. Sometimes you just play. . . . But it got to a point where I was having some symptoms where I knew I was probably going to jeopardize the team, so I knew to come out."
Owens misses practice
Wide receiver Terrell Owens missed a second straight Buffalo Bills' practice because of a strained hip.
The Bills remain hopeful that Owens will play this weekend.
