George W. Bush to start policy institute
Former president George W. Bush announced plans Thursday to start a new public policy institute at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Bush, who has kept a low profile since leaving office nearly 10 months ago, said the George W. Bush Institute will focus on four areas: education, global health, freedom and economic growth.
"We will contribute to the national dialogue in a positive way for years to come," Bush said on the university campus, home to his future library and museum. "This is a platform to continue public service for the rest of our lives, which I hope is a long time."
Ground should be broken late next year for the $300 million presidential complex, with its opening expected in 2013, officials have said.
