Allison Fraser & Alexander Robinson

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Allison Fraser, 29, is a litigation associate at a law firm. Alexander Robinson, 31, works for the American Red Cross. They live in Arlington.

Wedding date: Oct. 3

Location: Westminster Presbyterian Church, Alexandria; Woodlawn, Alexandria.

Guests: 150

How they met: The business school at the University of Virginia didn't have many women enrolled, so Alex bugged a classmate and his girlfriend to find him a date. They suggested Allison. Alex and Allison checked out each other's Friendster profiles; their interest in "Harry Potter" sealed the deal, and they met at a Charlottesville bar with friends in tow.

The proposal: The variety of rings overwhelmed Alex, so he took Allison shopping with him. Although that erased some surprise, he still wanted to stun her with the proposal. So one day in September 2008, he cooked dinner and served a cake he'd bought with "will you marry me?" written on it. Throughout dinner he was nervously drinking wine and saying, "You're really going to like dessert."

The wedding: The party was held under fall foliage, and Woodlawn oozed Jeffersonian style with brick walkways, reminding Allison of her undergraduate years at William and Mary. The reception tables were named after funny English soccer teams, such as Alex's favorite team, Tottenham Hotspur.

Honeymoon: Drank wine and hiked northern Spain.
